Joe Homan - Director of Bands
Joe Homan is in his 12th year as a music educator and has been the Director of Bands at Papillion-La Vista South since the summer of 2016. His responsibilities include directing the Varsity Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble 1, Jazz Ensemble 2, Jazz Combo, Winter Winds Ensemble, and co-directing the Campus Band, Concert Band, and Pep Band. He has previously held positions at Omaha South High Magnet School and Omaha Skutt Catholic High School.
In the teaching positions he has served, Mr. Homan’s ensembles have consistently earned superior ratings while significantly increasing in student participation. In 2012, NSBA awarded Joe with the Jack Snider Young Band Director Award.
Joe received both his Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Music Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. His professional memberships include NMEA, NSBA, and NAfME. Joe resides in Papillion with his puppies Mimi and Sophia.
Brian Johnson – Assistant Band Director
Brian Johnson is Co-Director of Choral and Instrumental Activities at Papillion-La Vista South High School in Papillion, NE. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Brian received his Bachelor Degree from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, IA. He went on to The University of Southern Mississippi where he earned his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting.
Brian is in his third year of teaching at Papillion South, and taught in Iowa for thirteen years prior. At Papillion South, he directs or co-directs concert band, marching band, musical pit orchestra, choir, show choir, and a pop a cappella choir. Brian lives in Papillion, NE with his wonderful wife Emily and their amazing children, Tyson and Ava.
